EUU’s “Purr”
DOCUMENTATION, MUSIC, SOUND

I, Joseph Sledgianowski, under pseudonym ‘EUU’ which I record and perform the majority of my experimental/noise/electronic music have finished my latest album EUU’s “Purr”. A 30 minute cassette.
Side A – 1: Purr 2: Colon with Vinyl
Side A
Side B – 3: Fug Tanker
Side B

This release comes with a small 36 page insert of drawings and collages, hand numbered out of 48.

Purr Insert

page spread sample

And is completely sealed in a piece of blue vinyl-originally pool hose/tubing-which is then hand burned the album title ‘ EUU’s “Purr” ‘.
package

Purr is EUU’s latest movement dealing with sexuality, loss, compulsion, attention and the translation of the physical and mental to the auditory. This proving not to be at all a new realm for EUU but an intimate advance.
This release is not created just to be listened to but also to be felt. The allocation of particular frequencies, panning, and repetition; disposition in exploration not only to be heard but seen and caressed. What is taken can be firm and influential. What is taken can be timid and derisible.

Hello Friends
DANCING, LOL, MUSIC, POINT OF INTEREST, WTF

I have something that’s been bothering me now for like 5 days. I have a song stuck in my head that I only know the (synth?) line for it. If you run into me in person, I will sing it for you.

BUT it sounds a great deal like the synth line from Grandmaster Flash’s “The Message” but to the melody of the chorus of India Arie’s “Video”.

Lux Interior, lead singer of influential garage-punk act the Cramps, died Wednesday morning (February 4) due to an existing heart condition. He was 62.

I can’t figure out how to imbed the video, so go here to check out the notorious Cramps show at the Napa State Mental Hospital.

I Could Never Be Your Woman
GENDER, LOL, MUSIC

A special guy made me a mixtape with the song “Your Woman” by White Town on it.
I’m sure all of you remember this song from the 90’s, and as soon as I heard it, it got stuck in my head and I had to figure it out, because the lyrics are a little gender-bending.

So, I did some research, as I tend to do, and discovered, to my delight:

First
White Town is one british indian guy, Jyoti Mishra, who recorded the song in 97′ when he was about 30.

According to him, the song is about:

” # Being a member of an orthodox Trotskyist / Marxist movement (as I was for three years in the 80s).
# Being a straight guy in love with a lesbian (ditto).
# Being a gay guy in love with a straight man (not tried this one yet).
# Being a straight girl in love with a lying, two-timing, fake-ass Marxist.
# The hypocrisy that results when love and lust get mixed up with highbrow ideals :-) “

and remarks,

“The last time I checked I was male. But as for gender….that’s another kettle of fish :-) “

The song’s samples are from old songs from the 20’s and 30’s.

I always liked this song.

DIY Composition
MUSIC, PERFORMANCE, POINT OF INTEREST, TECHNOLOGY

So I’ve been gettin more and more back into music over the past couple of years (and I’m sure this might confuse some of you) but I’ve been trying to marry my art and music making processes, and I think I’ve finally begun to get onto a decent middle ground. Here are some more steps that I am taking in that direction:

Creating “fake” bands via documentation (screenprints, t-shirts, demo tapes, bootleg live video, etc.)

Buying a modular synthesizer in 120 dollar increments from synthesizers.com (affordability and flexibility rule) so does this pic

baby clutched by the sound art hand of doom

I’ve also been pretty into freeware and “consumer” approaches to music, Here are some cool programs that I’ve come across

intua’s beatmaker for the iphone/ipod touch

this one is my personal favorite, and I’ve been using it a lot cuz its fun and easy to use

its kind of modelled after an akai mpc, there are velocity/touch sensitive pads, an onboard sequencer that makes it super easy to program
beats in time, real time record and the update I got a couple of weeks has a slew of other cool shtuff

its 20 bux but worth it (so not so freeware)

then theres a series of freeware by halcyon that’s pretty easy to use but fun and good for a laugh

check out their easy to use arpeggiator

or the drumatix modelled after the famous roland tr 808 drum machine that all those rappers love so much

there’s also gleetchlab which I haven’t used in a while, but it was built in max/msp/jitter and is a pretty easy to use sample player/editor, it doesn’t have sequencing capabilities, but its pretty fun to make noises on

until next time kiddies, peace love and a happy new year’d

genre exercises
MEDIA(TION), MUSIC, POINT OF INTEREST, SOUND, WEED

I am a huge fan of exploring contradictory genres, and when people do this. Especially when it’s real and not some sort of a gimmick (although it could be argued that many Japanese cultural phenoms come out of that sort of thing). Either way, this is great.

Meet Jero, who is being described by the press as the “first black enka singer in history.”

[Enka is a] genre of Japanese popular songs (kayōkyoku) developed in the postwar Showa period (1926-1989) , which has been likened to American country music and Portuguese Fado in terms of themes and audience. The term now usually refers to the latter type of traditional and melodramatic popular songs. -wikipedia
